Ophthalmology is the science dealing with the eye and everything surrounding it. Vision is one of the most valued human senses and as such, ophthalmology, which is a specialization of the general field of medicine, is vital for mankind. The ophthalmologist is concerned with the human eye which is the spherical structure we see, the wall beyond the cornea consisting of three tissue layers, the sclera which is the outermost layer that covers the outer surface of the human eye, the choroid which is the middle layer, the vascular layer and the retina which is actually a part of the brain and which is very light-sensitive.
